The efficacy of transvaginal ultrasonography and office hysteroscopy in evaluation of abnormal uterine bleeding

Background: Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is a prevalent issue in women of child bearing age group. AUB can be uncomfortable and have considerable impact on health-related quality life. reported to occur 9 14% between menarche menopause prevalence India around 17.9%. Methods: It prospective observational study done 75 patients with abnormal attending the gynaecology outpatient department (OPD) at Shri B. M. Patil Medical College, Vijayapura, Karnataka. Patient was thoroughly examined then transvaginal sonography (TVS) after obtaining consent. This followed by office hysteroscopy(OH) endometrial biopsy taken for histopathological examination. Data were gathered cost analysis each procedure done. Results: The most frequent presenting symptom heavy menstrual (49.3%). For proliferative secretory endometrium, sensitivity TVS 81.48% detection polyps, hyperplasia, submucous fibroid it 45.45%, 42.86%, 100% respectively. OH which 46.15%, 100%, p value <0.05 shows statistical significance both tests. demonstrated low correlation intracavitary diseases. costlier when compared TVS. Conclusions: has more accuracy detecting intramural pathologies. had showed greater diagnostic identifying intra cavitary pathologies uterus doing intervention same setting.
